january 21 - april 4, 2212 | news of mysterious animal attacks begin to spread throughout asia and europe. description of species vary. majority of victims were ripped to shreds. bitten survivors grew severely ill within a day and died within three. unknown cause but highly contagious. symptoms of infection progressed as follows: nausea, sweating, chills, migraines, vomiting, respiratory failure, internal bleeding, shock, and then death. disease can be transmitted through air and direct contact. bodies of the deceased must be burned. evacuation and defense protocols have been executed as well as research into a cure.
may 18 - august 16, 2212 | first reported attacks in north and south america. mysterious animals have been identified as new creatures. at least 100 different types in counting. each country appears to have variation in kind, but all of them are land-based. scientists are baffled. theory of rapid evolution is proposed. evacuation and defense protocols are still proceeding but wavering in their effectiveness. billions of people have died globally.
december 13, 2232 | cure to the infection has finally been found. most of the earth's population has dwindled down to only a couple million worldwide. survivors have formed various fortified communities throughout. most forms of communication have been lost between them, however. creatures, now known primarily as fiare (dubbed by a romanian scientist), have only spread and increased in number. they remain a prominent threat to civilization. second reckoning ›
september 30, 2246 | with the joint effort of various countries, scientists have created an airborne pathogen which theoretically should attack the immune systems of common predatory fiare throughout the world. they hope to wipe out the largest threats to humanity before they move onto lesser ones. it worked. however, in an ironic twist, release of the pathogen killed the intended targets but evolutionized a majority of other fiare, enhancing not only their physiology but effectively creating a newer and deadlier viral strand from their bite.
now, 2250 | human population of earth has dwindled to the mere thousands. fiare, now rulers of the sky and land, continues to be an ever present threat and the world is shit. although surviving communities are aware of each others' existence, contact between them are rare. corruption reaps among a few. one such community (and the heart of the setting) is located in a juvenile facility with a network of underground tunnels. governed by an autocratic dirtbag, a perverse hierarchy reigns within. the favored enters the harem while the rest are assigned to different roles. the unfavored become expendable, packed into jailcells underground like rats and thrown outside to replenish supplies as needed. in recent years, a rebellious wind has started to sweep through the lower ranks, however; a gradual stir of an unrest long time coming...
enter ake, age 25 | sharp and cutthroat, he grew up at the bottom and stayed at the bottom. he knows the territories outside of the facility like the back of his hand and he hopes to one day leave this hellhole behind. until then, he is willing to do whatever it takes to survive, even if it means sacrificing others. he detests the internal strife for favoritism, yet he has no interest in rebellion either. he lives for himself and those rare few who have caught his eye. |
